It’s been a crazy month here at SJ HQ and I will tell you more on the blog very soon but first I have to keep up the love of the great British Indie fashion shops and tell you all about Jake Shoes based in good old Manchester! Independent stores are what keeps the British High Street fun and interesting and Jake Shoes have been doing that in the North West for 40 years! This year marks the 40th birthday of Jake Shoes and for any independent that is some ‘feat’ – excuse the pun!
Jake Shoes started life in Stockport back in 1975 as a family run independent store called Jake after the owners son and Jake runs the business today. The store was so successful a second store in the Arundel Centre in Manchester City itself opened, giving the area with fashionable footwear brands for men, women at children at a fab price point. As it’s no longer 1975 and things have moved on a little since then you no longer have to drive to the Manchester area to pick up the latest footwear trends as Jake is just a click away online. If Vans, Converse, Hunter, Timberland, Superga or UGG are your thang go and take a look online now. Jake even have their own range of shoes and boots which can be found here.
Black suede slip-on snake skin Vans at Jake Shoes – £55
As part of the 40th celebrations Jake Shoes very kindly sent me a new pair of Vans to style up. I’ve literally just returned from the home of Vans – California so I kept my look quite Cali and very un-autumnal and dared to bare the ankles! These Vans are just perfect for now, the black suede snakeskin will also work well with bright socks or opaque tights once that autumnal chill kicks in.
I decided to wear mine with Paige dungarees and a plaid shirt from Topshop but I will also be wearing them to work with baggy trousers and slim cashmere knit for a slightly more formal look, basically these Vans go with anything! I like a bit of fun with my posts so here’s the Vans in action…
So next time you need a shoe or sneaker fix make sure you check out Jake and here’s to another 40 years!!
