2016 is flying by fast already and it’s already time for another Fashion Week and my favourite fashion week – New York! Even though I’m now living in the US, heading over to the ‘Big Apple’ from San Francisco takes nearly as long as a flight from London, so sadly, I’ll be watching the shows in the comfort of my own home however my feet will certainly thank me for it as fashion week madness can be totally brutal on the feet!
What’s really exciting for me is that now I live in the US I can easily buy from some of my favourite American designers that’ll be showing during fashion week, yes I know you can get everything back home in London but it could be a real pain hunting out some pieces, not to mention the price hike!
However, there is one Brit I always have my eye on during NYFW – Victoria Beckham. If you’ve read my blog for a while you’ll know I’m a big fan of her designs and own 3 of her dresses and several pieces from the denim range and the most amazing pair of aviators. She always gets a bit of stick for not showing in London, favouring New York but I totally understand why she decided on New York. While there would be no chance of me ever scoring a ticket for her show, which takes place on Valentines day, I will definitely be tuning in to see which direction she takes the brand this season.
For full on OMG amazing couture Oscar de la Renta never disappoints, I mean which girl wouldn’t want a dream dress from this couture house? Sadly anything ending ‘de la Renta‘ is out of budget though, so I will just be dreaming when tuning in. There is still availability for some of the other big names of fashion week – Vera Wang, Alexandra Wang, Tory Burch, Derek Lam and more, check out the full listing here.
My real favourite though is Rag & Bone, I’ve had a real love affair with this brand for several years now and had such a great experience when shopping at (several!) Rag & Bone stores in NY. Each piece is just so wearable and it’s very much my style, even though the price tag can be high, and if you’re wondering yes it’s still costs plenty of dollars here in the US.
However this year I’m just really looking forward to discovering new brands and designers. For those of you in or heading out to New York if you haven’t got your schedule sorted yet you can still get tickets for various Fashion Week events via Eventbrite. All in there 184 Fashion Week events listed on the Eventbrite site and some of the events are free to attend, all you need to do is register yourself for a ticket – simple! For a list of all the NYFW events take a look here or if you’re thinking of putting on your own event check out the event planning and management Eventbrite software.
