When I was training for the Nike Women’s 10k race last summer I began the hunt for the perfect pair of running shorts; they had to have their own liner and pockets, ideally a zip pocket and this proved quite a challenge… until I went to Lululemon and discovered the Speed Short however it turns out these ended up also being the perfect shorts as well.  This was entirely an accidental discovery.

Yes Lululemon (or Lulumelon as Mr B always calls it!) is a bit pricey but if you’re wearing work out gear a lot why not splash the same amount of cash as you would on a ‘normal’ piece of clothing.  When it comes to shorts and leggings Lululemon seem to have the best design pocket wise which is very important when I need to carry my iPhone, keys, asthma inhaler and tissues when working out; yes, running sometimes makes my nose run too!

Back to the shorts, I loved mine so much I ended up wearing them most of the time on the beach last year, they were the best all round shorts, the liner meant I could wear them for a quick dip in the sea, the material dried quickly and I could literally just go from beach to hike with Huxley, no messing around doing a quick change, I literally lived in my Speed Shorts when in France.  I actually felt far more comfortable running around the beach in shorts than I do in a bikini bottom and they just look more flattering I think, I literally did just wear my shorts on the beach at Cap Ferret – this was France after all!

H20 Speed Shorts from Lululemon $68/£58

So when Lululemon launched their new beach collection I was excited to see my ‘short wishes’ had been answered…. they had produced the Speed Short H2O specifically for the beach – perfecto! I was too slow and, annoyingly, they sold out online super fast (they appear to still have them on the UK site though) and my local Lululemon in Burlingame informed me they weren’t even getting the beach collection in store, but one of the lovely sales assistants managed to track a pair of the shorts down for me in another store and had a pair shipped over to me.

The H20 Speed Short is now only available in black online but I managed to get my hands on the Paradise Camo print which looks great with a tan.  These shorts have the liner and back zip pocket but they don’t have the really small front interior pockets.

Love that I can now literally go straight from the gym to the pool at home now.  I can see me living in these shorts all summer, please Lululemon, can you make some more in other colour ways?

If you’re planning an active outdoors beach holiday track these down, you will need them!
